Scene Editor - Overview

The Ocavu Inspector (Scene Editor)

To help users more easily adjust their models, the Ocavu platform is equipped with a Blender-esque 3D scene editor, referred to as the "inspector".

The purpose of the inspector is to give users an opportunity to identify and fix problems with a model without leaving the Ocavu platform.

The inspector can be found in a few places. A standalone version is available to the general public at app.ocavu.com/inspector You can use the standalone version to practice using the many tools and features the inspector has to offer. You will also use the inspector when creating a new model or editing a draft.

Some of the inspector's features may not be obvious at this time so we recommend reading through the inspector documentation at least once.

Loading a model

To use the inspector simply drag and drop your model files onto the inspector window as indicated by the placeholder model. The inspector supports several model formats including

  • fbx
  • stl
  • DAE (collada)
  • obj
  • gltf/glb

Gltf and glb are the safest formats to use with the inspector. We recommend using gltf and glb if at all possible. At this time the inspector can only export models in glb format.

The inspector may take some time to load the model depending on the size and complexity of the model. When the model is ready you will be able to interact with the inspector's 3d environment. After some additional loading tasks the rest of the ui will appear and you will be able to edit many different aspects of the model.

Editing a model

Common editing tasks include:

Fixing a model

A model must be configured correctly to work on all the major AR platforms. The inspector can help identify and fix problems related to cross-platform compatibility. To learn more about model validation in the inspector see the section on warnings. It must be noted however that the inspector is not designed to fix broken models. A model with significant issues will most likely need to be fixed in 3d model software like Blender.

Reporting Issues

If there is a problem with the inspector then we would like to know as soon as possible. The best way to reach us about inspector issues is by sending an email to support@ocavu.com.
